Message from the Executive

The Executive of the Ottawa Chapter/Section d’Ottawa of the Ontario Association of Library Technicians/Association des bibliotechniciens de l’Ontario would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Ottawa Chapter/Section d’Ottawa of the OALT/ABO. You are receiving this e-mail message from us, as you have renewed/started your membership for the 2019 calendar year. The Executive has been working hard to provide opportunities for you – our members for the upcoming year.

This update will highlight some of the available documents, as well as some of the planning that we are in the process of working on.

New Executive Members for 2019

On February 26, 2019, the Ottawa Chapter/Section d’Ottawa held its Annual General Meeting at Biagio’s Italian Kitchen Restaurant. We had nine members in attendance. At this event, we approved the 2018 Executive and Committees Annual Reports and held the elections for the 2019 – 2020 Chapter Executive. The Chapter Executive members are as follows:

President: Barbara Cope
Secretary: Sharon Doyle
Treasurer: Linda Landreville

The following position is currently vacant: Vice-President. It would be appreciated if a Chapter member, whether for a long time, or only recently, would please consider filling this position. As per the Chapter’s Constitution and By-laws, the Vice-President’s duties are:

  1. performs the duties and exercise the powers of the President in the absence or at the request of the President;
  2. acts as the Chapter liaison with the Chapter Coordinator of the Association, including submitting an annual report on Chapter activities and a financial statement;
  3. attends all meetings;
  4. may be appointed chairperson of a special committee by the Executive;
  5. coordinates activities of standing committees.
  6. presents a written report to the membership at the Annual General Meeting which must be submitted for translation at least four (4) weeks prior to the meeting.

I encourage any member (new or existing) who wishes to be part of the Executive, a Committee, or a member of the Board of Directors of the Association to consider coming forward. It is an extremely rewarding opportunity, which allows you to help out the library community at the same time.

46th Annual OALT/ABO Conference

The OALT/ABO’s 46th annual Conference will be held at the Best Western Cairncroft in Niagara Falls this year.

Looking at the year ahead

The Executive and Committees of the Ottawa Chapter/Section d’Ottawa are currently in the process of trying to plan /identify some potential workshops and information sessions. Possible sessions, as discussed on February 26th are a second session on Google Apps and WordPress. If you have any other suggestions, or would like to recommend a contact to present Wordprss, please let us know.
